If I Had A Million Dollars…
If I had a million dollars
I’d build a tree-fort in our yard
If I had a million dollars you could help
It wouldn’t be that hard
If I had a million dollars
Maybe we could put a little tiny fridge
In there somewhere
We could just go up there and hang out
Like open the fridge and stuff
And there’d all be foods laid out for us
Like little pre-wrapped sausages and things
They have pre-wrapped sausages
But they don’t have pre-wrapped bacon
Well, can you blame them?
Yeah!
Barenaked Ladies – If I Had A Million Dollars Lyrics
Have You Made $1,000,000?
Most of us still wonder about this, but chances are you’ve already made a million dollars over your lifetime. If you’ve made $50,000 per year over the last 20 years, then you’ve made over $1 million. This tends to be the goal of a lot of people; they want to have a $1 million business making $1 million per year.
Let’s look at some basic facts…
- If you make $100 a day over the course of a year you will earn $36,500 a year.
- That means that if you worked 10 hours a day at $10 an hour, seven days a week, you would make $36,500 a year.
- If you work 5 hours a day at $50 per hour, then you would make $91,250 per year.
- If you work 10 hours a day at $100 per hour, then you would make $365,000 a year.
All of those numbers sound good, but it’s really hard to raise a family on $36,500 per year. If you made $91,250 a year, then it is a heck of a lot easier to live. But how do you get to that point?
Dennis Becker (better known as the five bucks guy) says that if you can earn a thousand dollars per day you can make $365,000 a year. Then you say “Brian, that’s assuming that I’m going to work seven days a week to make $1,000 per day?” That is the point … and YES you can!
A million dollars per year equals $2,777 a day or $83,333.33 per month.

The $1,000,000 Mindset
Making $1 million dollars per year is incredibly easy … but I assume you don’t believe me? A million dollars per year equals $2,777 a day or $83,333.33 per month. That may be completely unfathomable in your world or in your mind, but it does happen every single day. I have been to multiple webinars where someone sells a $1,000 product to between 30 and 50 people per webinar. That is $30-$50,000, and they can do it multiple times per day.
Then you say to yourself, “Brian, I can’t work seven days a week 24 hours a day”, and I’m here to tell you … YES you can! You just have to gain that million-dollar mindset.
Limiting Beliefs
We all have limiting beliefs that make us think that we’re not smart enough, not good enough, or not worthy enough of attaining success. Here are the top five reasons that I believe hold us back…
- I only have 8 hours; 5 days a week – Sell More Than Just Time – If you sell time, then you need to create products that help you promote your business better. If you only sell products, then you need to create services that help you maximize the billing opportunities to sell what you’re promoting. It’s not that complicated, but you have to make sure that you’re giving people multiple opportunities to work with you and your business.
- I have to do this all by myself – Get Help – As an entrepreneur, I understand the concept of thinking you have to do it all yourself. I used to run a business that had five employees, but now my business is run with five virtual assistants. They help save me between 20 to 30 hours per month, so I can focus on growing my own and my customers’ businesses.
- I will lose customers if I raise my rates – Try It … Invent New Services – You’re probably right, but I was able to grow my business by raising my prices. What I found was the quality of clients that I got at the higher prices better aligned with my ability to serve them. Lower priced clients were looking for a bargain, where higher priced clients were actually better equipped to understand the value of what I provided.
- I don’t have the right training or experience – Get a Coach – Not one of us knows it all. Every doctor needs a doctor … every coach needs a coach … every mentor needs a mentor … and so on. Don’t be so full of yourself that you think you know everything and you can’t learn anything from anybody else. Be open-minded and get help! My coaches continue to help me better understand my audience, my clients and how to serve them better, so we can both become more successful!
- I don’t deserve this – you’re right – Until You Change Your Mindset – This is the most common, and strongest, mindset block that prevents people from reaching their ultimate potential. You don’t deserve it until you believe that you can … and that’s why I suggest that you get help. You really do deserve it, because you have the ability to be the best that you can be, and people need to know what you have to offer them. Just because you haven’t gotten there yet, does not mean that you cannot get to where you have be someone where YOU can make a difference in other peoples businesses.
Final Thoughts
Maybe your goal is not to make $1 million per year … I understand that. But if your goal is to make a difference in the world, then you have to understand the math. I know for some, you are saying, “Dewd, this is so basic”, but for others this is going to be a mind-blowing experience. Whether you are new, or experienced, you have to go back and look at what the numbers say!
Even if you don’t want to make $1 million, at least you can examine what’s important to you. I would love to hear your comments and feedback whether your thoughts are good, bad or indifferent!
